Future "X-Men" films just got a little hotter, as Channing Tatum has signed on to play the role of Gambit in new releases.

Producer Lauren Shuler Donner confirmed the news in an interview with Total Film.

Ms. Shuler Donner said the reason for the selection was, "He's a rogue, he's a rascal, just like Remy LeBeau. He can handle the action, as we know, and he's got a real good heart, I know him personally."

"He'll be great for Gambit, and he's a southerner too, he understands that world, and you know Gambit loves New Orleans," she added.

For his part, the "Magic Mike" hunk says he has always been interested in the role.

"I met with Lauren Shuler Donner. And I would love it. Gambit is really the only X-Man I've ever loved," he explained.
