It is a dark day for the Dark Knight fans out there. Kevin Conroy, the man who voice-played Batman in around 18 incarnations including animated movies and video games, will not be reprising his role.

Hopes had risen few months ago when the famed Batman voice actor mentioned that he is working on “a new Arkham game”. Batman: Arkham Origins, the prequel to the highly- and critically-acclaimed Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City, is the latest and only game being helmed by Warner Bros. at the present under its gaming subsidiary, Warner Bros. Montreal. Fans have speculated that this is the “new Arkham game” Conroy is talking about.

It seems like it is not.

A week ago, it is reported that Roger Craig Smith, the voice behind another rooftop-jumper, Ezio Auditore of the Assassin’s Creed fame, will be donning the cape and cowl in the new Batman game. This reflects Warner Bros.’ decision to give the Dark Knight a much younger voice since the game will be about Batman’s earlier years.

On the same note, Troy Baker of the Bioshock Infinite’s Troy Baker fame will be voicing The Joker, a role made more famous by Mark Hamill.

And as for this “new Arkham game” Conroy talked about in which he is involved in, rumors are starting to circulate that it is the sequel to Batman: Arkham City being helmed by Rocksteady, the previous games’ developer, for the Playstation 4 and Xbox One.

Sounds like better news.
