Controversial Miss Universe Japan

For Ariana Miyamoto, a 20-year-old model and native of Sasebo in Nagasaki prefecture, winning the title of Miss Universe Japan should be a crowning glory. Instead, she has been plagued with controversy the moment she was announced as the winner.

All because... she's a "haafu"

The beauty with an advanced mastery of the art of Japanese calligraphy speaks fluent and Japan but she being a "haafu" or someone multiracial or multiethnic half-Japanese, the people of Japan (deemed as one of the most homogeneous places on earth) think she's not Japanese enough to represent them. Miyamoto is half black but she says she's Japanese inside through and through.

Personally, we think she's gor-ge-ous!
