Lately, the world has witnessed giant monsters go toe-to-toe against equally colossal robots in Guillermo del Toro’s homage to Japanese Kaiju genre, Pacific Rim. Next year, the king of the monsters, and the original inspiration behind the Kaiju films, Godzilla, will be released in May 2014.

Under the direction of Gareth Edwards, the man behind the critically-acclaimed independent film, “Monsters”, and penned by “The Dark Knight Rises” and “Man of Steel” scribe, David S. Goyer, the film will be a complete reboot and will not have any ties to the 1998 version.

Pacific Rim director Guillermo del Toro earlier expressed his interest in a crossover between the two universes, Avengers-style, where Godzilla, the original Kaiju monster, can give a good match against the mechanical Jaegers.

As many will observe, the Kaijus’ scheme of attack, i.e. rising from the sea to wreck havoc over cities, is very much similar to the king of the monsters. It is a blue print that can fit the Pacific Rim universe easily.

It also helps that the two movies are helmed under the same studios, Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures, so the possibilities for the crossover are not entirely bleak.
