1. Frizz: Honey mask
1 tbl. honey and 1/4 cup conditioner
Swirl honey into conditioner, then work the mixture evenly into clean, damp hair. Cover your head with a plastic cap and leave on for 15 minutes (the heat trapped underneath the cap helps hair absorb the moisture). Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water.
2. Oily scalp: Peppermint tea rinse
3 peppermint tea bags and ½ cup hot water
Steep the tea bags in the water for several minutes. ("The rinse has to be very concentrated to work its magic," says Cifuentes.) Let cool. Use in the shower after you've finished shampooing, applying to your scalp with a soaked cotton ball. Leave on for 5 minutes, then rinse and condition as usual.
3. Damaged hair: Rosemary tonic
Handful of fresh rosemary and 4 cups boiling water
Pour water over rosemary and allow to steep for 20 minutes. Strain out the leaves and, once cool, pour the herb-infused water into a spray bottle. After shampooing, follow up by spritzing the tonic all over clean, wet hair, concentrating on your roots. Comb through and leave in for 10 to 15 minutes, then rinse. Follow with conditioner.
4. Heat damage: Avocado & olive oil deep treatment
¼ medium avocado and ½ tsp. olive oil (use less for fine hair)
Mash the avocado with a fork and add the oil; whisk or blend until creamy. Massage onto clean, damp hair. Let the mixture sit for 20 minutes, then rinse thoroughly with warm water.
5. Dull hair: Papaya
Mash ¼ papaya into a liquidy pulp and apply to damp hair. Wrap hair in a hot towel and leave on for 20 minutes, then rinse.
