The gala classical concert on Saturday was the center of attention because of the lack of presence from a certain pope.
Known as the "humble pope" of the Vatican, Pope Francis has showed us that he will do things differently in the Vatican. So far he has refused his grand papal quarters, eaten meals with other residents in the Vatican and has showed an amazing sense of openness when it comes to dealing with people.
The message he wanted to send when he didn't attend the gala was pretty obvious to the cardinals who were present there: with the Church in crisis, he - and perhaps they - had too much pastoral work to do to attend social events.
The day before the concert, Francis said bishops should be "close to the people" and not have "the mentality of a prince".
On Saturday, while the concert was in progress in an auditorium just metres (yards) away, Francis was believed to be working on new appointments for the Curia, the Vatican's troubled central administration.
All we can say is, good for you Pope Francis!
