The former Senegal national team coach, the French Muslim Bruno Metsu, said:
“While coaching Senegal at the 2002 World Cup, I noticed a striking contrast. In France, a country with comfort, freedom, and opportunity, I often heard of suicide cases treated as routine news. In Senegal, despite poverty and simplicity, such cases were rare.
One dawn, hearing the call to prayer and seeing hundreds of people rise for Fajr, I felt a deep inner peace I had never known. That moment helped me understand that true happiness is not material, but spiritual.
Through the kindness of the Senegalese people and a woman who introduced me to Islam, I found the path to God. I embraced Islam and realized that a person may have everything, yet still lack peace without faith.”
He later embraced Islam, changed his name to Abdul Karim, and was known for his love of Islam and his family. He passed away in 2013, his last words being:
“Islam is a blessing. Islam does not die. Praise be to God that I die upon Islam.♥️
