He’s never been one to discuss his personal life (Oprah couch jumping aside), but Tom Cruise has finally opened up about his painful divorce from Katie Holmes last year.

The “Risky Business” hunk chatted with German publication ProSieben while promoting his new flick “Oblivion,” indicating that he didn’t see the split coming.

Cruise explained, “I did not expect that. [But it did give me] an incredible amount of time to reflect.”

“Life is a challenge. To be 50 and have experiences and think you have everything under control, and then it hits you — that’s what life is… Life is tragicomic. You need a certain sense of humor.”
