BREAKING NEWS: 🔴
14th April—Juba: Unidentified armed men reportedly looted Medicines Sans Frontier's Hospital during recent violence in Ulang County of Upper Nile State.
The looting impacted the healthcare centre, where more than 800 patients living with HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and other chronic diseases, including over 100 patients receiving critical treatment, will lose access to proper treatment as MSF forcibly closes.
The incident has sparked worries about the safety of medical facilities and staff in conflict-affected areas in the midst of ongoing fighting between the White Army and the SSPDF in the region.
According to a statement published on their media page, Doctors Without Borders strongly condemns what they believe to be armed looting of its hospital in Ulang, Upper Nile State.
“SOUTH SUDAN: MSF strongly condemns the armed looting of its hospital and premises in Ulang, Upper Nile State.
"On the morning of 14 April, dozens of armed men stormed the MSF hospital and office in Ulang town, threatened staff, and looted vital medical supplies and equipment.
"As a result, all medical services at the hospital, the only functioning health facility in the area, have been suspended.”
Therefore, the ongoing conflict in South Sudan has severely impacted the healthcare and operations of humanitarian organisations to provide much-needed assistance to the local population.
This is the third time after 2016 and 2017, when Médecins Sans Frontières / MSF South Sudan medical facilities have also been destroyed in places like Pibor, Leer, and Kodok.
