  • 1 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1/4 c. unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 t. salt
  • 1 t. baking soda
  • 1 t. vanilla extract
  • 1 t. white vinegar
  • 1/3 c. vegetable oil
  • 1 c. water
  • Frosting: (optional)
  • 2 T. butter
  • 1/4 c. unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 c. powdered sugar
  • 1 T. milk or cream
  • 1/4 t. vanilla extract

Steps

  1. Cake:
  2. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease an 8 x 8 inch baking pan.
  3. Combine the dry ingredients: flour, sugar, cocoa powder, salt and baking soda in a large mixing bowl.
