Encased in a glass coffin for almost 100 years is the beautiful mummified body of 2 year-old Rosalia Lombardo, Italy's Sleeping Beauty. She's known by a lot of names: the Girl in the Glass Coffin, Sleeping Beauty, the World's Most Beautiful Mummy, the Best Preserved Mummy in the World. But beneath all that is a heart wrenching story of a young girl who was too sickly and who died too young.

It's been said that her father was so heartbroken that he asked world famous embalmer Alfredo Salafia, to preserve Rosalia for eternity. Using his own recipe (which had been a secret for such a long time until recently when someone discovered it), he was able to miraculously preserve Rosalia's body, so much that she looks as if she's merely sleeping.

She is one of the last to be mummified by Salafia and was placed inside a glass coffin and interred inside the Capuchin Catacombs of Sicily. Right now, she is the most popular mummy in the catacomb and people go there to see the immortalized child.
