Thats our Flag, our National Colors.
It flies above the impossibly small hamlet of Graignes,France.
You've never heard of it, no one has, it's in the middle of nowhere.
From June 8th to June 10th, 1944, 180 Paratroopers
(3/507th PIR) establisheda strong point and held off the 17th "ss" Division for 48 hours; it was a horrific and decisive battle. We lost 59 men. 59 of 180. In the aftermath the
Nazi's executed our wounded, our medics, our Chaplain, the village Priest, and every civilian in the town. They burned
every building to the ground. It's a story lost in history; it happened 18 miles behind enemy lines to a pickup team that
nobody ever interviewed.
But our flag flies. Everyday since this town's liberation it's
been flown to remember the tremendous sacrifice these
Troopers, Americans, paid for their liberty.
Let me say that differently..this little tiny French town, that isn't even in a map, honors and remembers our Values and Sacrifice...every day. Let that sink ii
