Copycat In-N-Out's Animal Style Fries

Ingredients
Secret spread:
1/2 c. mayonnaise
1/2 c. ketchup
2 T. dill pickles, finely chopped
1 t. yellow mustard
1/2 t. salt
1/2 t. ground pepper
1/2 t. sugar
1 t. apple cider vinegar
Fries:
1 c. cooked french fries
1/2 onion, diced
1 t. vegetable oil
2 slices American cheese

Secret spread:
Mix together the mayonnaise, ketchup, dill pickles, yellow mustard, salt, pepper, sugar, and apple cider vinegar.
Animal Style Fries:
Add oil and diced onions to a saute pan set over medium-high heat; cook, stirring occasionally, until deeply caramelized.
Add 2 slices of American cheese directly over the cooked, hot french fries; top with caramelized onions and a squeeze of the secret sauce.
