Description
The secret to this great recipe is root beer! It adds a fantastic depth of unexpected flavor that takes a typical baked bean recipe to the next level. You won't be disappointed.
Ingredients
- non-stick cooking spray
- 3 slices bacon
- 1 small onion, diced
- 32 oz. canned pork and beans
- 4 oz. root beer
- 1/4 c. hickory-smoked barbecue sauce
- 1/2 t. dry mustard
- 1/8 t. hot sauce
Steps
- Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Lightly grease a 1-quart baking dish with non-stick cooking spray.
- Fry the bacon in a skillet over medium heat until crisp; remove and drain on a paper towel lined plate, reserving 2 T. bacon drippings in the skillet. Crumble the bacon.
- Sauté the diced onion in the hot bacon drippings in skillet over high for 5 minutes or until tender. Add the crumbled bacon, beans and remaining ingredients in the prepared baking dish; stir.
