At least 2 people have been confirmed dead and about 181 injured in the plane crash in San Francisco airport just this morning. In this video the Chairman of the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) Deborah Hersman issued a statement to the Associated Press about an hour ago that an investigation will be conducted the soonest possible time. However, the FBI has already confirmed that there were no terrorism involved and the crash was just an accident.
Still it is heartbreaking to the families of those who perished in the flames, not to mention the trauma it had caused to the survivors. A few years back engineers tried to push for additional safety measures to passenger airlines, which will include 4 safety parachutes on top of the airplane to cushion its landing as a fail-safe device to avoid the loss of lives. Sadly most airline companies rejected the idea saying that the cost overruns will bankrupt them. Installing such safety measures may be difficult but not impossible, according to the engineers the shoots will open up in the event of a crash landing and it will have the size of 4 football fields to effectively reduce drag and land the plane safely and vertically.
Perhaps we should open up this topic to the public once again so that it airline companies will reconsider this option to save more lives and the airplanes as well. If you think about it, it really is more cost-effective to include safety parachutes on airlines than to not have them at all.
