This is the first new design for American Airlines since way back in 1968. The new design includes a new logo and a new paint scheme. Since the new airplanes are made of composite materials it wasn't an option to stay with the shiny silvery metal design. Silver mica paint is being used to keep that silvery look that people and passengers are used to seeing but with a cleaner more sleek design.
