USS IOWA was the first ship in the United States’ last class of battleships and the third ship in the Navy to bear the name of the state. During her long life she was commissioned for 227 months. Presently, the IOWA is located at Richmond, Calif., for clean-up in preparation for her future role as a museum ship in the port of Los Angeles, Calif.
