This is a large, ornate, hand made, antique copper, brass and glazed four door case in a beautiful patina that only comes from age. This case structure is about four feet square and stands about seven feet tall. It appears to have originally been built to house a four sided clock. It sat on a fabricated steel base with a sixteen inch square receiver on the bottom; probably so it could be mounted on top of a square post or column.

The top section is a steeply sloped copper "roof" that is topped with a ten inch diameter ball. It is all copper, with a beautiful patina from the elements. This steeply sloped "roof" top section is removable, as it slips down over the three foot square bottom section.

The bottom section stands about three and a half feet tall from the base to the bottom "eave" of the roof section. It is sheet copper over steel angle iron. Each of the four sides is a brass framed glass door with ornamentation at each corner of the glass. The four doors all open. They are 31" square, and are hung on the original solid brass hinges. Brass and copper fasteners were used for the hinges and glass mounting. The doors bolt shut as original. It is in good condition, with some dings, dents, etc.

The original mounting base section was removed as it was rusted beyond use as a safe mount. The current bottom mounting structure was welded to the original steel framework to support the unit.

Story told : It was a street clock Tower from the area at 1600 blk of university Ave. in the 20's. after it was removed (time unknown) this case without the works was acquired and was placed as an architectural element displayed in the Award Winning Garden of the Otto Crocker family, that was located next to their "Castle House" on the north end of 56th st. in the El Cerrito Area. When the Crocker's moved, it was given to an admiring neighbors wife, and placed on display in their front yard on Redlands Dr., were it sat for another 35 + years . It was acquired from her estate, and has sat in a garden since.

It now needs a new location, to use as an interior element, focal point, display, terrarium, hot house, garden folly. It is a classic piece of craftsmanship. A local copper craftsman, who did copper work of this scale on the Star of India, and likes, Stated that it would cost between six and seven thousand dollars to replicate today.
