I remain absolutely 100% convinced that the best parts of West Point are tucked into the shadows and stashed into the corners.
Yesterday our Cadet Leaders toured Arlington National Cemetery. It was a very public event; until a few small groups broke off and found a few private moments to spend with our Fallen Graduates.
Then we went to the Vietnam Memorial. So many names. So much Sacrifice. And again, it was amazing to watch them pause, and think, and find a singular person to honor and remnember.
Then there is Lake Frederick. Long gone is the "summer camp" atmosphere that epitomized my own time out there in
1993. It's become so much better, so much gritter, in every
way. Yesterday was the Lake Frederick "water crossing" a new "tradition" anchored in toughness, challenge, and
perseverance. And, like the trip to Arlington...there is nc fanfare or audience...just pure warrior and leader
development. This is my squad. This is the best job in the Army. Go Army!
