Barely two weeks since it landed the U.S. shores, Iron Man 3 already smashed box office records, including being the second highest debut of all time in the country.

Opening at a mammoth $175.3 million, Tony Stark’s 3rd installment kicked Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows Part 2’s $169.1 million pot off the top spot, landing the armor suit-wearing billionaire only behind the 2012 superhero crossover (in which he is part of) The Avengers which earned a heftier $207.4 million at the opening last year. Robert Downey Jr.’s flick also already got passed the animated pre-historic family movie The Croods to be the highest earner of 2013.

Despite this, Iron Man 3’s overall earnings still need to crush other Marvel’s top-grossing films including, Spider-Man at $821.7 million, Spider-Man 2 at $783.7 million, Spider-Man 3 at $890.8 million, and even The Amazing Spider-Man at $752.2 million gross.
