Just days before she was meant to return home, Sgt. 1st Class Nicole M. Amor, a 39-year-old U.S. Army Reserve soldier from Minnesota, lost her life in a drone strike during the escalating conflict involving Iran.

She had already begun counting down the days.

Back home, her husband Joey and their two children were waiting for the moment she would walk through the door again. They had plans — not for anything grand, just the simple joys families hold close: dinners together at the table, laughter filling the house, and the quiet, ordinary moments that only reveal their true value when they are suddenly taken away.

The night before the attack, Nicole had been texting her husband like she always did. In one message, she casually mentioned she had slipped and fallen earlier that day.

Nothing serious.
Just another ordinary conversation between a husband and wife separated by deployment.

But the next morning, Joey woke up with a feeling he couldn’t explain — something deep inside telling him that something wasn’t right.

No message.
No reply.

Then came the phone call every military family fears.

His wife was gone.

Through unimaginable heartbreak, Joey Amor spoke words that now resonate far beyond his own family:

“She was almost home.”

Nicole was more than a soldier who wore the uniform with pride. She was a devoted mother who treasured every moment with her children. She loved tending to her garden in the backyard, making homemade salsa with her son, and rollerblading down the sidewalk with her young daughter.

Small moments.
Beautiful moments.

The kind of moments war quietly steals from families every single day.

Tonight, we pause not only to remember her service, but to honor the life she lived and the love she gave so freely to those around her.

May Sgt. Nicole Amor rest in eternal peace.
May her family be surrounded with strength, comfort, and the gratitude of a nation that will never forget her sacrifice.

And may we all remember that the greatest victory humanity can ever achieve is not found in war — but in peace. 🕊️🇺🇸
