Gone were the days when women were dubbed as "damsels in distress" especially in the movie industry, with the record-braking movies Hunger Games: Catching Fire and Disney's Frozen, shattering everyone's expectation about female roles in the society.

Katniss Everdeen takes her life into her own hands as she battles with an evil government who is determined to kill her and everyone she loves unless she pacifies the rebel districts in the movie Hunger Games: Catching Fire.

Elsa and Anna, sisters and both princesses, have to separate at an early age due to Elsa's condition. This is not a story about finding true love in the form of a prince, but rather, finding the true meaning of love, acceptance and happiness with your family members in Disney's Frozen.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire reportedly had the best Thanksgiving weekend any movie has ever had, garnering an astonishing $110 million over the course of five days. Meanwhile, Frozen probably has the biggest Thanksgiving opening for Disney, with $93 million already.

Not only that, almost half of the moviegoers of both movies were male. So step aside manly movies, girl power is in the house.
