As the most endangered whale specie in the entire planet, the North Pacific Right Whale was spotted for the second time since 1951. Their estimated population is about 50 and only about 30 have been individually spotted.
Their decreased numbers were largely due to the fact that they have been mercilessly hunted during the commercial whaling era.
