A presidential portrait of former President Obama was unveiled last February 13 at the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C.

Commissioned by the Smithsonian Institution, the portrait was painted by Kehinde Wiley, a 40-year old L.A.-born, New York-based painter. While this is not the official portrait for the White House, the future resident in the gallery's "Hall of Presidents" display has received a lot of feedback - both go d and bad.

Dressed in a dark blue suit with an open-collar white shirt, Obama is seen sitting on a stately chair in front of green foliage with various flowers surrounding it. He offers no smile as he leans forward with his hands crossed casually. Kehinde Wiley is the first African-American to be commissioned for such a painting and rightfully so for the first African-American president.
