Pretzels are typically a snack, but these special pretzels can be served as an appetizer, snack, or even as a meal because they are so satisfying and filling.
Ingredients
- Dough:
- 1 1/2 c. warm water, 110°F - 115°F
- 1 package instant yeast
- 1 1/2 T. sugar
- 2 t. salt
- 4 1/4 c. all-purpose flour
- 6 T. unsalted butter, softened
- Cooking Liquid:
- 8 c. water
- 3/4 c. baking soda
- Filling:
- 8 oz. Black Forest ham, diced
- 8 oz. Swiss cheese, shredded
- 4 oz. pickled jalapeños, minced
- Egg Wash:
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 T. water
- Toppings:
- poppy seeds
- sea salt
Steps
- Dough:
- In the bowl of a stand mixer with a dough hook attachment, combine the warm water, yeast, sugar, and salt. Let the mixture sit for about 10 minutes, or until it becomes foamy.
- Add the flour and softened butter to the yeast mixture; knead on medium speed for about 12 minutes until a smooth dough forms.
