In a large bowl, use an electric mixer on medium-high speed to beat the cream cheese for 1-2 minutes or until light and fluffy and no lumps remain. Add the powdered sugar; beat until fully incorporated.
Add the milk and vanilla extract; beat on medium speed until the cream cheese mixture is smooth and fluffy, scraping the sides and bottom of the bowl.
Fold the Cool Whip into the cream cheese mixture until no white streak remains and everything is fully incorporated.
Very gently fold the angel food cake pieces into the cream cheese mixture until completely incorporated, being careful not to break up the angel food pieces too much while combining all the ingredients.
Transfer the cream cheese mixture to a 9×13 baking dish; spread out in an even layer.
Spoon the cherry pie filling evenly over the cream cheese mixture.
Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes or up to 2 hours, or until the flavors have combined and the cream cheese layer has set.
Serve cold.
12 servings.
Tips:
Store tightly covered with plastic wrap or in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
It can be made up to 24 hours in advance. This will enhance the flavor as the layers have time to meld together.
