Description
Naan is a flatbread that originated in South Asia and is loved the world over, but especially in Indian cuisine. It's easy to prepare and is soft, fluffy and delicious.
Ingredients
- Naan Bread:
- 1/4 c. warm water
- 2 t. sugar
- 1 1/2 t. active dry or instant yeast
- 3/4 c. warm milk
- 3/4 c. plain Greek yogurt or plain natural yogurt
- 1/4 c. vegetable oil, plus 2 T. more for cooking
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 4 c. all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
- 1 t. baking powder
- 1 t. salt
- Garlic Butter Topping:
- 3 T. butter, melted
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 t. fresh cilantro or parsley, chopped
Steps
- Yeast Activation: In a bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast; let sit for 5-10 minutes until it turns bubbly.
- Dough: Stir in the warm milk, yogurt, 1/4 c. vegetable oil, and minced garlic. Add flour, baking powder, and salt; mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface; knead for 3-5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
