Description
This is an easy to make dessert that's great anytime of the year but especially in the summertime. It starts with a sweet bottom layer, on top of it a sweet and tart fruit layer and ends with a buttery, crumb topping.
Ingredients
1/2 c. butter, at room temperature, divided
1 c. granulated sugar, divided
1 egg
1 t. vanilla extract
1 1/2 c. all-purpose flour, divided
1 t. baking powder
1 t. salt
1/2 c. milk
1 c. fresh blueberries
1 c. fresh strawberries, sliced
1/2 t. cinnamon
1/2 t. nutmeg
sweetened whipped cream or vanilla ice cream for optional serving

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 9" baking pan.
In a small bowl, cream 1/4 c. butter and 1/2 c. sugar; blend in the egg and vanilla.
In a small bowl, stir together 1 c. flour, baking powder, and salt.
Add dry ingredients to the creamed mixture alternately with milk; stir until blended.
Pour batter into the prepared pan. Arrange the fruit over batter.
In a small bowl, combine the remaining sugar, remaining flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Cut in the remaining butter until the mixture is crumbly. Sprinkle the crumb mixture over the fruit.
Bake 35 minutes.
Serve with sweetened whipped cream or vanilla ice cream, if desired.
