Bring back your childhood with this Ding Dong styled cake. Make it at home and everyone can have a fresh, homemade treat!
1 box devil's food cake mix, your choice of brand
1 stick butter, softened
8 oz. cream cheese, softened
3 cu. powdered sugar
8 oz. whipped topping, your choice of brand
1 container milk chocolate icing
Prepare and bake cake as directed on box for 2 round cake pans.
Mix and cream butter and cream cheese then add powdered sugar and fold in whipped topping.
After cake has cooled completely, split layers and spread filling on each layer and stack. Don't spread filling all the way to the edge of the cake because the weight of the cake will press it out the edge when you are finished. This keeps the filling from mixing with the icing. You may want to put the uncut cakes on plates in the freezer for about 30 minutes to make a cleaner cut.
Frost entire cake with the chocolate icing.
