Make your own spiced nuts in your slow cooker. It's so easy and delicious too! The nuts can be adjusted according to your own preferences.
cooking spray
1/4 c. pure maple syrup
3 T. unsalted butter, melted
2 t. ground cinnamon
2 t. finely grated orange zest
1 t. kosher salt
1/8 t. cayenne pepper
2 c. raw pecans
2 c. unsalted roasted cashews
Line a 6-quart slow cooker with a slow cooker liner for easy clean up, and then spray with cooking spray. (An oblong slow cooker works better than a tall one.)
Whisk together syrup, butter, cinnamon, orange zest, salt and cayenne pepper in a large bowl. Add pecans and cashews, and toss to coat. Add nuts to slow cooker in an even layer, cover and turn heat to High. Cook until a light syrup forms at the bottom, about 60 minutes.
Turn heat to Low, stir nuts and continue to cook, stirring every 20 minutes, until the nuts are glazed and the bottom of the cooker is dry, about 60 minutes.
Turn slow cooker off, uncover and let the nuts harden, stirring occasionally, up to 2 hours. If not serving immediately, the nuts can be stored in an airtight container up to 5 days.
