Tired of the typical meatballs in a marinara sauce? Try these in a cheese sauce. It is much like an Alfredo sauce. Made with cream cheese, Parmesan cheese and whipping cream and spices, everyone will love this dish!
1 T. butter
1/2 large onion, roughly chopped
3 cloves garlic
1 lb. lean ground beef
1 lb ground pork
1/2 t. salt
1/2 t. black pepper
1/4 t. oregano
1/4 t. ground sage
1/2 c. Parmesan cheese, grated
2 eggs
sauce:
8 oz. cream cheese, softened
3/4 c. whipping cream
1/2 c. Parmesan cheese, grated
1/4 t. pepper
1/8 t. nutmeg
1/4 t. salt
1/2 t. garlic, minced
1/2-3/4 c. water, as needed
1 T. chopped parsley
Heat oven to 375 degrees. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
In a medium skillet over high heat, melt butter and saute onion for 5 minutes, until translucent.
Add garlic and cook 1 minute, until fragrant.
In a large bow,l mix together the two meats. Add the sauteed onions and garlic, cheese, eggs, salt, pepper, and spices. Mix well to combine.
Roll golf ball-sized meatballs and line up on the prepared cookie sheet.
Bake for 20-25 minutes, until browned and cooked through.
sauce:
In a medium saucepan, cook cream cheese over medium-low heat, stirring until melted and smooth.
Gradually stir in whipping cream until smooth. Add the Parmesan cheese and seasonings. It will be very thick.
Cook over low heat until smooth and creamy, adding water until you’ve reached the desired consistency.
Pour sauce over the meatballs or put the meatballs in the pan with the sauce and let rest 5 minutes. Garnish with chopped parsley.
Serve with your favorite pasta, like spaghetti or egg noodles.
