Chocolate Graham Cracker Cake

Description

Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. butter
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 3 eggs, separated
  • 2 c. graham cracker crumbs
  • 2 T. baking powder
  • 3 T. cocoa
  • 1 T. powdered coffee, optional
  • 1 t. salt
  • 1 c. milk
  • 1 t. vanilla extract
  • 1/2 c. chopped walnuts
  • 1/4 c. chopped walnuts for garnish, optional
  • Chocolate Sauce:
  • 1 c. whipping cream
  • 2 T. sugar
  • 4 oz. bittersweet chocolate, chopped
  • 1 T. unsalted butter

Steps

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Grease and flour two 9 inch round cake pans.
  2. Cream butter, add sugar and egg yolks, mixing until well combined. Add graham cracker crumbs, baking powder, cocoa, salt, milk, vanilla extract, and walnuts; mix well. Beat egg whites until stiff and fold into mixture.
  3. Pour batter into pans. Bake 25-30 minutes. Cool slightly. Turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
