Serve this delicious cake with a chocolate sauce for the people that you love. It will be a huge hit and will become one of your go-to desserts in the future.
1/2 c. butter
1 c. sugar
3 eggs, separated
2 c. graham cracker crumbs
2 T. baking powder
3 T. cocoa
1 T. powdered coffee, optional
1 t. salt
1 c. milk
1 t. vanilla extract
1/2 c. chopped walnuts
1/4 c. chopped walnuts for garnish, optional
Chocolate Sauce:
1 c. whipping cream
2 T. sugar
4 oz. bittersweet chocolate, chopped
1 T. unsalted butter
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Grease and flour two 9 inch round cake pans.
Cream butter, add sugar and egg yolks, mixing until well combined. Add graham cracker crumbs, baking powder, cocoa, salt, milk, vanilla extract, and walnuts; mix well. Beat egg whites until stiff and fold into mixture.
Pour batter into pans. Bake 25-30 minutes. Cool slightly. Turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
Combine cream and sugar in a small saucepan.Heat to a boil. Pour mixture over the chocolate and butter in a medium bowl while still hot. Stir until completely melted and smooth.
Strain through a fine wire mesh strainer into a serving bowl. Serve over cake with a dollop of whipped cream and/or chopped walnuts, if desired.
