Recipe

Description
Dress up those plain hamburgers with mushroom and onion gravy. Serve with mashed potatoes, rice or egg noodles.
Ingredients
- 1 1/4 lb. lean ground beef
- 1 egg
- 1/4 c. bread crumbs
- 1/4 t. freshly ground black pepper
- 1/2 t. seasoned salt
- 1/2 t. onion powder
- 1/2 t. garlic powder
- 2 t. Worcestershire sauce
- 1 T. olive or vegetable oil
- 1 small or medium onion, thinly sliced
- 2 T. all-purpose flour
- 1 c. beef broth or stock
- 1 1/2 T. cooking sherry
- 1/2 t. seasoned salt
- chopped parsley for garnish, if desired
Steps
- Mix the ground beef, egg, bread crumbs, pepper, salt, onion powder, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce in a bowl. Form into 8 patties.
- Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook patties and onion in the oil until patties are nicely browned, about 4 minutes on each side. Remove the beef patties to a plate, and keep warm.
- Sprinkle flour over the onions and drippings in the skillet. Stir in flour slowly with a fork, scraping bits of beef off of the bottom as you stir. Slowly stir in the beef broth and sherry. Season with seasoned salt. Simmer and stir over medium-low heat for about 5 minutes, until the gravy thickens.
