Baked Fontina Fondue in a Skillet

Description

You don't need a fondue pot to make this cheesy appetizer. Use your oven and an iron skillet to make one of the greatest appetizers that you will ever taste!

Ingredients

1 1/2 lb. Italian Fontina cheese, rind removed and cut into 1 inch cubes
7 cloves garlic, thinly sliced
1 T. fresh thyme, chopped
1 t. fresh rosemary, chopped
3 T. extra virgin olive oil
1/2 t. Kosher or sea salt
1/2 t. freshly ground black pepper
1 baguette bread, cut into large chunks

Adjust top rack of the oven so that it sits about 5-10 inches under the broiler unit. Preheat the broiler.

Spread the cheese out in the bottom of a 12 inch cast iron skillet. Drizzle olive oil over the cheese.

Mix together garlic and herbs in a small bowl; sprinkle mixture evenly over the cheese. Sprinkle salt and pepper over the top of the cheese.

Bake 6 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly and melted through. Carefully remove the pan from the oven.

Serve with chunks of crusty bread or crackers immediately while hot.

5-6 servings.
