If you are having a crowd sized gathering, this would be the perfect dessert. It is the vanilla version of the traditional Texas Sheet Cake and is quick and easy to make.
2 sticks butter
1 c. water
2 c. sugar
2¼ c. flour
1 t. baking soda
½ t. salt
½ c. sour cream
2 eggs
1 t. vanilla
optional: sprinkles or chopped nuts for topping
Frosting:
2 sticks butter
¼ c. milk
4½ c. powdered sugar, sifted
¼ t. salt
2 t. vanilla
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Grease an 11x17 inch sheet cake pan.
Place butter and water in a large saucepan; stir constantly over medium heat until butter is melted.
Remove from heat; whisk in the sugar, flour, baking soda, salt until smooth. Add the sour cream, eggs and vanilla; continue whisking until smooth.
Pour into cake pan. Bake 20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Remove cake from the oven and immediately begin making the frosting. Cake does not need to cool.
Frosting:
Place butter and milk in a large saucepan; stir constantly over medium heat until butter is melted.
Remove from heat; stir in the powdered sugar, salt and vanilla until smooth.
Pour frosting over cake and spread. Add sprinkles or chopped nuts, if desired.
