6 medium Granny Smith or other cooking apples, washed,peeled and cut into fourths
3/4 c. packed brown sugar
1/4 c. apple juice
1/2 T. ground cinnamon
1/2 T. lemon juice
1/2 t. ground allspice
1/2 t. ground nutmeg
1/4 t. ground cloves
Line a slow cooker with a slow cooker liner for easy clean up.
Mix all ingredients in the slow cooker.
Cover; cook on LOW setting 8 - 10 hours, or until apples are very tender.
Mash apples with potato masher or large fork.Try not to tear the liner.
Cook uncovered on LOW setting 1- 2 hours, stirring occasionally, until mixture is very thick. Cool about 2 hours.
Spoon apple butter into a container or containers. Cover; store in refrigerator up to 3 weeks.
