Hamburger Steaks in Mushroom and Onion Gravy

Description

One pound of ground beef can go a long way when made with this recipe. Not only that, it tastes great, as well. Serve with rice, egg noodles or mashed potatoes.

Ingredients

1 lb. ground beef
1 egg
1/4 c. bread crumbs
1/8 t. freshly ground black pepper
1/2 t. seasoned salt
1/2 t. onion powder
1/2 t. garlic powder
1 t. Worcestershire sauce

1 T. vegetable oil

1 c. thinly sliced onion
1/2 c. sliced mushrooms
2 T. all-purpose flour
1 c. beef stock
1 T. cooking sherry
1/2 t. seasoned salt

In a large bowl, mix together the ground beef, egg, bread crumbs, pepper, seasoned salt, onion powder, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Form into 8 patties; flatten.

Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook patties, mushrooms and onion in the oil until patties are nicely browned, about 4 minutes per side. Remove patties to a platter; cover to keep warm.

Sprinkle flour over the mushrooms, onions and drippings in the skillet; stir with a fork, scraping bits of meat off of the bottom while stirring. Gradually mix in the beef stock and cooking sherry; sprinkle onseasoned salt. Simmer; stir over medium-low heat for about 5 minutes, until gravy thickens.

Turn heat to low, return patties to the gravy, cover, and simmer for another 15 minutes.

Serve.

Makes 8 patties.
