Make lemonade, but don't just make ordinary lemonade. Make it a strawberry lemonade like Red Robin's Strawberry Freckled Lemonade.
zest of 1 lemon, in wide strips
lemon slices
2 c. sugar, divided
1 1/2 c. water
2 c. washed, chopped, hulled strawberries
2 c. freshly squeezed lemon juice from about 10 large lemons
1/4 t. salt
2 c. cold water
Lemon syrup:
Bring lemon zest, 1 1/2 c. sugar and 1 1/2 c. water to a boil in a medium saucepan, stirring, until the sugar dissolves; cool to room temperature.
Strawberry syrup:
Toss strawberries and remaining sugar in a bowl; let sit at room temperature until the sugar dissolves, about 45 minutes. Strain strawberry mixture; reserve the strawberry syrup and berries separately.
Lemonade:
Combine lemon juice, lemon syrup, salt and 2 c. cold water in a pitcher.
To make each drink, place about 1 T. strawberry syrup in a tall glass; fill with ice; pour lemonade; top with a few reserved strawberries and a lemon slice.
