Description
This dish is so beautiful you can serve it to guests. It's made with a homemade, thick red meat sauce and two different cheeses to make a delicious and economical meal that can be served on special days.
Ingredients
- 1 T. olive oil
- breadcrumbs
- 1 lb. ground beef, ground sirloin or turkey
- 1/2 onion, grated or finely chopped
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 pinch red pepper flakes
- 1 pinch coarse salt
- freshly ground pepper
- 28 oz. can good quality whole peeled tomatoes, crushed by hands, with their juices
- 1 lb. rigatoni pasta
- 1 c. freshly grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 c. shredded Mozzarella cheese
- fresh basil, optional
Steps
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Grease or spray 9 inch springform pan with cooking spray then sprinkle bread crumbs around the pan.
- Heat oil in large skillet over medium-high. Add ground meat and onion; cook browned, about 5 minutes. discard any grease, if necessary. Add garlic, red pepper flakes, salt and pepper; sauté 1 minute add crushed tomatoes; simmer on medium until thickened, 20 minutes.
- While meat sauce is cooking, boil rigatoni in well salted boiling water until slightly underdone, about 12 minutes; drain; rinse with cool water; drain.
