These biscuits are perfect for a lazy morning breakfast or brunch or maybe even a snack or dessert later in the day served with ice cream. They are marvelous, hot, buttery and sweet.
8 frozen buttermilk biscuits, thawed or homemade buttermilk biscuits
21 oz. can premium apple pie filling
1 stick butter, melted
½ c. light brown sugar
1 T. ground cinnamon
1 t. vanilla extract
⅛ t. nutmeg
¼ c. walnut or pecan pieces, optional
Glaze: (double, if desired)
½ c. powdered sugar
2-3 T. cream or half & half or 1-2 t. whole milk
Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
Melt butter; brush on all sides of a 10 inch cast iron skillet.
In a bowl, mix together brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg until blended.
Dip each biscuit in the melted butter; sprinkle all sides with the cinnamon sugar mixture; arrange side by side in the skillet.
Cut the apples in the pie filling into smaller pieces; mix in vanilla extract. Arrange over the biscuits.
Pour remaining butter over all; sprinkle remaining cinnamon-sugar on top.
Bake 30-35 minutes, until golden and puffy.
While biscuits are baking, mix together the glaze ingredients.
Drizzle glaze on top of hot biscuits.
Serve hot.
