Make old fashioned, basic scalloped potatoes with no cheese. They are creamy and delicious and are so good and comforting, everyone will want seconds, so be sure to make enough.
4 c. potatoes, thinly sliced
3 T. unsalted butter
3 T. flour
1 1/2 c. evaporated milk
1 t. kosher salt
dash cayenne pepper
paprika, for garnish, optional
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a casserole dish.
In a small saucepan, melt butter; whisk in flour, making sure to sprinkle it out evenly over saucepan; cook for 1 minute; add milk; season with salt and cayenne pepper. While whisking, bring the mixture to a slow boil.
Place half of the sliced potatoes in the prepared casserole dish; cover with half of the sauce. Repeat; sprinkle the top with paprika.
Bake for 1 hour.
Serve.
