There's nothing better than homemade fudge especially during the holidays. This one is perfect for fall since it is prepared with maple flavoring. It's easy and quick to make. The hardest part is waiting for it to cool off and harden in the refrigerator.
2 c. light brown sugar
5 oz. evaporated milk
1 c. unsalted butter
2 c. powdered sugar
½ t. vanilla extract
½ t. maple flavoring (found in the baking aisle near vanilla extract)
1 c. coarsely chopped walnuts
Butter an 8 x 8 or 9 x 9 inch pan; line with parchment paper or foil; butter; set aside.
In a medium saucepan, combine sugar, evaporated milk and butter; bring to a full boil over medium heat; reduce heat slightly (no lower than medium-low); boil for 10 minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from heat; stir in the powdered sugar, vanilla extract and maple flavoring.
Transfer mixture to a stand mixer or use a hand mixer; beat fudge on medium speed until thick and glossy, about 3 minutes; fold in walnuts. Pour mixture into prepared pan.
Let mixture cool to room temperature; cover tightly; refrigerate overnight.
Slice into 1 inch squares.
Serve.
Store at room temperature in an airtight container.
