Whether you serve these apple pie biscuits as breakfast, a snack or as a dessert, everyone will want more than one, so you may need to double the recipe. They are so simple to make and so delicious, they are even good enough for company.
8 frozen buttermilk biscuits, thawed
21 oz. can premium apple pie filling
1 stick (1/2 c.) butter, melted
½ c. light brown sugar
1 T. ground cinnamon
1 t. pure vanilla extract
⅛ t. nutmeg
¼ c. walnut or pecan pieces, optional
Glaze: (double if desired)
½ c. powdered sugar
2-3 T. cream or half & half or 1-2 t. whole milk
Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
Melt the butter; brush on all sides of a 10-inch cast iron skillet.
In a bowl, stir together brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg.
Dip each biscuit in the butter; sprinkle all sides of the biscuits with the cinnamon/sugar mixture. Place side by side in the skillet.
Cut the apples in the pie filling into smaller pieces; stir in vanilla extract; arrange over the biscuits; pour remaining butter over everything; sprinkle remaining cinnamon/sugar on top.
Bake for 30-35 minutes, until golden and puffy.
Mix together the glaze ingredients; drizzle on top.
Serve hot.
