These dried strawberries are so sweet and are better than candy. When you make them at home, they are healthy with no preservatives or ingredients that you can't pronounce. You can feel safe serving them to your loved ones.
1 lb. strawberries, hulled, halved, quartered, if large
2 T. raw or granulated sugar
Toss sliced strawberries and sugar in a large bowl; let sit until berries start to release their juices, 25–30 minutes. (Note: Taste the strawberries when slicing them. If they are already pretty sweet, the sugar won't be necessary.)
Preheat oven to 185 degrees or the lowest possible setting, which may be 200 degrees.
Spread berries out on a rimmed baking sheet that has been lined with a non-stick baking mat or parchment paper, making sure not to crowd them.
Bake, rotating baking sheet about every 30 minutes; flip them over after 2 hours; bake until berries are darkened in color and dried out around the edges but still slightly juicy in the center, total time about 3 1/2 to 4 hours. Remove from oven; allow to cool completely on the baking sheet.
Transfer to an airtight container. Since there are no preservatives in dried strawberries, they are best eaten within 5 days.
