Don't let those fresh strawberries get bad and go to waste. Preserve them with the oldest method for preserving food-dehydration. The flavor of the berries are concentrated and more intensified. Enjoy them in your cereal, oatmeal, or granola.
1 lb. strawberries
Wash and dry strawberries; hull or slice off the green tops. Slice strawberries about 1/8 inch thick. getting the slices as even as possible so that they dry evenly.
Arrange sliced strawberries on dehydrator trays, making sure they are not touching, to help airflow which allows berries to dry properly.
Set dehydrator to 135 degrees F, which is standard for fruits and vegetables, but making sure to follow manufacturer's instructions for fruit/vegetables. Allow to dry for 6-10 hours, checking them after about 5 - 6 hours. They should be very dry, but not brittle, and there should be no noticeable moisture when broken apart.
Dry other fruits like apples, pears, bananas, and small plums.
* Depending on the size of the dehydrator, you may need to work in batches.
