Make this ridiculously simple and delicious dessert for your friends and family. When it's warm from the oven and served with vanilla ice cream, it truly comforting and satisfying.
6 c. tart cooking apples from about 2 medium, peeled, cored, sliced (Granny Smith, McIntosh and Braeburn)
3/4 c. firmly packed brown sugar
3/4 c. uncooked old-fashioned oats
1/2 c. all-purpose flour
1 t. ground cinnamon
1/2 c. cold real butter
vanilla ice cream, for serving, if desired
Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
Place prepared apples into an un-greased 8 inch square baking dish.
Combine brown sugar, oats, flour and cinnamon in bowl; cut in butter with a pastry blender or fork until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Pour into the baking dish. Sprinkle sugar mixture over apples.
Bake 25-35 minutes or until apples are tender and topping is golden brown.
Serve warm with vanilla ice cream, if desired.
