If you love French Onion soup, you'll love these French Onion Soup inspired sliders. They're loaded with caramelized onions, ground beef and lots of gruyere cheese on slider buns that have been brushed with a yummy buttery sauce with lots of seasonings.
Ingredients
- 8 T. butter, divided
- 2 large sweet onions, sliced
- 2 lb. ground beef
- 2 T. beef base like Better than Boullion, divided
- 1 T. Worcestershire sauce, divided
- Kosher salt and black pepper, to taste
- 24 slider buns
- 12-16 oz. gruyere cheese, chopped
- 2 T. sesame seeds
- 1 T. freshly chopped thyme
- 1 t. onion powder
- 1 t. garlic powder
Steps
- Melt 2 T. butter in a large skillet over medium heat; add onions; reduce heat to medium-low; cook, stirring occasionally, until lightly caramelized, about 25-30 minutes. If onions start to look dry or burned, add 1 T. water.
- In a large bowl, mix the ground beef with half of the beef base and half of the Worcestershire sauce.; season with salt and pepper.
- Add beef to the skillet with the onions. Increase heat to medium-high; brown beef, breaking meat up and mixing with the onions while cooking. Once browned, drain off/discard grease.
