Downton Abbey lovers, this recipe is for you. It's like a cake but in the shape of a loaf of freshly baked bread. It's so good, you may just want to host a tea with your friends.
Ingredients
- Bread:
- 3/4 c. milk
- 1 T. fresh lavender, finely chopped (or a little more than 1 T. dried, but not as flavorful as fresh)
- 6 T. butter softened
- 1 c. sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 t. vanilla extract
- 2 c. all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 t. baking powder
- 1/2 t. salt
- Glaze:
- 1/3 c. sifted powdered sugar
- 1 t. water
- 1/4 t. vanilla extract
Steps
- Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Grease and flour a 9 × 5 inch loaf pan.
- Combine milk and lavender in a small saucepan over medium heat; heat to a simmer; remove from heat; allow to cool slightly.
- In a medium bowl, cream together butter and sugar until smooth; beat in the eggs until mixture is light and fluffy; add in vanilla. Combine flour, baking powder and salt; stir into the creamed mixture alternately with milk and lavender until just blended. Pour into the prepared pan.
