Many people grew up with wilted lettuce salad, long before it became popular to buy bottled salad dressing. The bacon drippings, along with vinegar and brown sugar, make it very tasty.
4 c. torn leaf lettuce
1 small onion, sliced
3 radishes, sliced
6 bacon strips, crisply cooked and crumbled
2 T. vinegar
1 t. brown sugar
1/4 t. ground mustard
1/4 - 1/2 t. salt
1/8 t. black pepper
In a skillet, cook bacon until crisp; drain on paper towel.
While bacon is frying, toss lettuce, onion and radishes in a large salad bowl; set aside.
To the bacon drippings, add vinegar, brown sugar, mustard, salt and pepper; stir well while bringing to a boil; pour over lettuce; toss; sprinkle with bacon.
Serve immediately.
4-6 servings.
