Put a little twist on the original Cuban cocktail by adding fresh blackberries to the famous drink. Be sure to gently muddle but not crush the ingredients to release their wonderful flavors. You don't want bitter tannins to ruin the cocktail.
12 large mint leaves
12 blackberries, reserving a few for garnish
4 t. sugar
1 T. freshly squeezed lemon juice
1 T. freshly squeezed lime juice
1/2 c. seltzer water
1/4 c. white rum or vodka
6 - 8 ice cubes
Muddle mint leaves, blackberries, sugar, lemon and lime juices in a tall glass; add seltzer water; add rum or vodka; add ice; stir.
Serve.
Makes 1 cocktail.
